It’s technically outside of the Uptown PID, as is Harwood District. But most people generally lump them in as Uptown though.

After thirty-five years of empty office space in downtown Dallas, one would be crazy to add even more to it. We are talking more than a third of a century of more than 25% empty office space amounting to millions of square feet. Not even a ghost will be seen in many instances as, in many of these buildings that were built long ago, the space was never occupied.

Really, if anything gets built, expect it to happen between the immediate areas of Caroline Hunt's prior properties of The Crescent and of her Mansion on Turtle Creek.

Indeed, the so-called Uptown Dallas area is just a legal designation. It begins just 300 feet from Downtown Dallas as the two areas are separated by a freeway. In contrast, downtown Houston and its Uptown area are seperated by six miles.

Houston’s “Midtown” functions more like Uptown Dallas in regard to relation to downtown. Houston’s Uptown while having the same neighborhood name, functions a lot differently.

Indeed, Uptown Houston was often referred to as the Houston Galleria area during prior times. The equivalent in Dallas and just as far from downtown is Northpark Center. The amount of established retail in Central Dallas is what sets it apart though.. The stepping up and down in scale that one does is incredible when walking between Forty-Five-Ten on Main Street in downtown Dallas and Stanley Korshak on McKinney Avanue in Uptown Dallas, then further onwards towards West Village which is also located along McKinney, and, finally, in a direction north towards Knox Street and its luxury District which too is also located along McKinney.

You didn't answer my question.

In what ways is MARTA superior to DART?

Still, look at how well DART has already hooked up to both DFW and Love Field airports? DART has connected up to five medical centers - Southwestern Medical Center itself is served by two lines. The major business centers of Central Dallas, downtown Fort Worth, the Stemmon Corridor, Las Colinas, and the Telecom Corridor of Richardson are all connected.

There are several past threads on City-Data that go into depth on this topic. A number of posters seem a have experience and knowledge of both DART and MARTA.

As far as rail is concerned the general consensus is MARTA offers superior service to its key core areas via higher capacity heavy rail and higher ridership numbers. While DART LRT exceeds in overall area coverage.

Bus service between the two may be more of a toss-up.
