Hello! My husband and I along with our young adult daughter will be moving to the Dallas area from the Minneapolis area. We would like to prioritize living in a community that has opportunities for young adults who have intellectual disabilities. It can be difficult to find work and activities that are suitable. Our daughter will live with us, we are not in search of a home for her, just social groups with other people like her. This might be a stretch, I know it is hard to find these things but thought someone here might have some insight. Thank you!

I live in Denton County, so I looked up some services there. https://www.dentonmhmr.org/iddcare.html - they offer services to help find paid employment. UNT also offers a program if she's interested in additional educational opportunities: https://elevar.unt.edu/. All of the 4 major counties (Denton, Collin, Dallas, and Tarrant) should offer services and will probably have insights into social groups that you can become part of.

Howdy Homemade Ice Cream shop hires exclusively people with intellectual disabilities and the owner is a great guy. Maybe a place to look?
