I'm a remote worker in my 30s, moving from Austin to Dallas. I currently live in Hill Country in Austin, but as Austin is a big college town, I'd like to live somewhere for DINKs. Looking to be 20-30 minutes of Downtown Dallas. That will make it easier for me to socialize more and date, yet live a comfortable, quiet life.

Priorities:

Budget: $2K to rent a duplex, townhouse, or small house. No apartments
Want it to be 15-20 minutes from a Trader Joes & ALDI
Near lakes, walking trails, and nice parks.
3 Bedroom, 2 Bath

Target Cities - A List: Plano, Addison, McKinney, Carrolton, Allen

Target Cities - B List: Irving, Arlington, Grand Prairie

Visited Plano and saw a few duplexes, but the houses looked fairly aged. Looking for newer duplex/homes to rent, until I am ready to buy a house next year. Checked out Rowlett but read about the storms.

Is a Max of $2K per month a reasonable budget for any of these target cities? Any other recoms?

Arlington and Grand Prairie would be better for your budget but longer than 30 min drive in traffic.

Irving is a good choice but budget could be difficult; you’d probably find something. I would focus on zips 75063 or 75039 in Irving.

Most of the northern burbs are going to take longer than 30 minutes to downtown in traffic. See if there’s a DART station near work; perhaps you can find a rental near a DART station to help with commute.

The closer you get to the city the older the housing stock.
