If you want a smaller town, I suggest you think about what amenities you need and how far you are willing to drive to get to them. They could be markets, gyms, religious organizations, doctors, airports, etc. How far are you willing to drive to get to these things if you need them. You may want to consider San Antonio or some of the cities between Austin & San Antonio or between Dallas and Tyler. You could experience a smaller place while being a short drive (well, an hour or so) from a major city.

Im late sorry about that funny enough I just checked out Tyler yesterday it was pretty nice it reminds me of Monroe/Indian Trail Area back in North Carolina. I will be checking out San Antonio next month.
