Background: originally from DFW area living in Seattle area for last 8 years. Previously lived in Wylie. We moved before daughter started kindergarten so no experience with Texas public schools. With that being said I want a more liberal district but know that will never compare to PNW. Husband will have to commute to Greenville 3 days a week. Is Frisco ISD the unicorn I'm looking for?

No, I would consider Frisco ISD nor the majority of the ISD families to be progressive. Angela Paxton (wife of Ken Paxton….) is one of the state senators representing Frisco and 1 of the 2 US reps for the Frisco districts voted against certifying the 2020 election results. I would also not want to commute to Greenville 3x a week from Frisco - that’s about 75-90 minutes each way depending on traffic.

Dallas ISD, Garland ISD & Richardson ISD would be more progressive and more diverse. If it were me, I would focus on living east of 75 and close to either Bush or 635. Garland ISD is an open enrollment district so you do not need to attend your neighborhood school if you prefer another. Dallas ISD has quite a few strong elementaries east of 75 - Hexter is east of White Rock Lake and is very good. The Lake Highlands part of Richardson ISD could also work.

The Greenville commute makes it rough to recommend much more than that.

Definitely avoid Rockwall, Sunnyvale, etc suburbs - easier commute but extremely conservative.

Lake Highlands (Richardson ISD), or the Woodrow feeder zone of Dallas ISD might be good fits. I live in Lakewood and occasionally have to go to the Greenville area. It’s far, but not too bad of a drive as it is the definition of a counter commute.

Then it might be worth the commute to be with a like-minded community. But if not, Frisco is waaaaay too far from Greenville.

A little more information is needed. What is the budget and when you say liberal how liberal are we talking. I would likely be looking at Rockwall but again it depends on how conservative your willing to deal with.

Well, you're not asking about the best school districts in the Dallas area; what you're actually asking about is liberally-run school districts in the northeast quadrant so the commute to Greenville isn't too awful.

Frankly I think your concern about "liberal" vs. "conservative" is a little silly talking about an elementary school child. Believe it or not, school teachers have a lot more to worry about than whatever indoctrination you fear.

I'm looking for a school willing to educate vs worry about dress codes/hair colors/etc. We have no dress codes in our district here in Washington so anything goes. I understand that will not be the case in DFW area. Budget 500k-600K
