Hello, as the title states, I was wondering if Dallas is midwestern or southern. I thought of it as midwestern but my friend just went there and said it was more southern than midwestern.

It's part of North Texas so that makes it Northern. Are there actually any real States farther North?

Taint no place else other than Texas!

I'd say Dallas is southern with some midwestern influences. Just my opinion.

On a national scale, considering it's about the same latitude as San Diego and further south than Atlanta, I would say it classifies as southern.

I've never heard anyone categorize any part of Texas as midwest. What most people call the midwest is really more mideast and well to the north. The name just came about before western states were established.

I heard that before the Louisiana Purchase, states like Illinois were the West. Since they weren't too north or south, they were mid-.

Wikipedia says Texas is South Central.

I think we had a pretty big thread about this a while back. Texas is certainly not the midwest. North Texas is also, IMO, certainly not the south. Being geographically south isn't the same thing as being culturally south. After all, does anyone think Miami is the epitome of being southern? Of course not.

Parts of Texas, mostly in east Texas, could probably be considered southern. But not Dallas.

I sort of consider Texas to be its own thing. Maybe "southwestern" is closer than either "southern" or "midwestern."
