Technically it won an award (alongside SFO) for North American airports above 40 million passengers with the best satisfaction scores - not necessarily the best airport in North America.

But seeing as there are 16 other airports in North America exceeding 40 million passengers, still a good achievement.

I've been saying this for years. I go to all the major airports in the US at least once a year, and I'm glad DFW is my home base.

I've flown through DFW a few times and was always a positive experience.

I have mixed opinions about DFW from my travels to/from/through there. There's A LOT of terminals, and you definitely risk misjudging how long it can take if you're changing from one side of the airport to the other.

And certain areas seem too tight on people space - some of the circulation areas between gates feel really crowded during busy periods, but that may be because the terminals are set up as single-loaded walkways with a wall or retail on one side. The AA regional jet sub-terminal (can't remember the bigger terminal it's part of from where you walk under the apron) seems crowded too.

But I've definitely been in worse U.S. airports. (LAX and EWR come to mind.)

I've heard that LaGuardia and JFK aren't great either.

All just silly self-promotions - and all over the place.
Airport Council: https://aci.aero/programs-and-servic...d-recognition/
For example, Globally, only Atlanta made it in the top 3, with DFW not mentioned globally.

Skytrax: DFW #66 in the world: https://www.worldairportawards.com/w...airports-2023/
Also, NOT top 10 in North America by Skytrax: https://www.worldairportawards.com/b...global-region/

Both Houston airports were in the top 4 though.

JD Power: DFW is #8 in mega airports with Houston outside of the top 10.
DAL/Love is #3 in large, Hobby #8.
Overall "Customer Satisfaction": None of the 4 listed.

I like DFW as a layover. Never used it as origin or destination - but as a layover, what are the main things I want?
Lots of Eat / Drink places -- Yes.
Reasonably priced (for an airport) -- Yes.
Easy to navigate -- and here's where we differ. Yes, the train is cool - I've been there when it's broken, then it's a lonnnnnnnnng walk to anywhere.
But even if you're already in your terminal - a fast walk to your next gate is far from guaranteed. It's big. I can imagine if you're not particularly able-bodied, you don't find DFW that awesome. It's fine for folks trying to get their 10,000 steps in. It means as a layover, it's a bit unforgiving, if your first flight is running behind. Always true, but moreso in DFW than some others.

LaGuardia's gone through a recent renovation and is a lot better than it was. I've had to go through there recently and it was a breeze. Huge improvement from the past.

Yeah, I would never schedule a tight connection through DFW - that could be a serious aerobic workout, even if the train is running.
