Plano schools running a deficit again | News for Dallas, Texas | Dallas Morning News | Latest News (http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/latestnews/stories/091708dnmetplanoisd.1a47143.html - broken link)

".... Plano ISD's projected budget deficit for 2008-09 is $14.67 million. The district has a reserve balance to cover the deficit, but other districts might not be as lucky, Ms. Bender said.

"They will be bankrupt," she said.

In an attempt to increase revenue, 103 school districts will ask voters to approve higher property tax rates this fall. Plano school board members recently approved the maximum tax rate increase allowable without voter approval. If the state doesn't increase funding, officials said, they might be forced to ask voters to approve another tax rate increase next year. Budget cuts also could be required, they said."

Just about everybody is now, Dallas should be either next year or the next.

The legislature and governor's promised property tax reductions were merely prestidigitation.

proof that you can change the image of a school district overnight. You are as good as your last test score or win.
