Hello!

I plan on moving to Dallas later this summer and looked at a few apartment complexes this weekend in the uptown/downtown areas, including Gables, Marquis, etc and the two that struck out at me were the Marquis at Turtle Creek (off of OakLawn and 75) and Dakota in the Village.

I have read several incidences of burglaries (car and apartment) at the Marquis at Turtle Creek and that the Village is pretty much a frathouse for the rich kids at SMU.

I'm a young (female) professional and don't want to live in a party atmosphere. Safety is absolutely a must since I have a dog and take him out by myself late at night and early in the mornings.

Any thoughts about these two apartment complexes or should I look into others?

Btw, I'm looking at a 1br for under $1500 in Dallas (i.e. not in Plano, etc).

TIA!!

I have no knowledge of either of those complexes but I will say walking a dog late at night is a bad idea regardless were you live (assuming it's not a pit bull).

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I don't go on long walks by myself after dark. I just take him around the block to relieve himself/stretch out his legs before we turn in for the night.

I would say the Village crowd is post-college...

There will be crime regardless of which area you are looking at. The village is reaonably safe and has their own security patrol, but there still are breakins and other crime at least once a month.

I don't know about the Marquis, but I'm sure it has crime being that it is in uptown.

For $1500, you have a lot of options for a decent apartment. I haven't lived in an apartment for a while, so I am out of touch with what's decent.

You may also want to drive around Highland Park & University Park. There are condos/townhomes to rent that are quiet and safe, although they will probably be a little older and owned by individuals, not a huge apartment complex.

Good luck.
