Hey man, did you ever find a place? I am in the same position as you and I am moving down to Dallas in a few weeks. I have a place to stay for a few weeks but I need some advice on where to start looking for apartments. My price range is about the same as yours ($1000). I am also a young well-to-do guy looking to be in the middle of a good time.

Actually, with the current economy a lot of the newer places downtown are offering great rates. You can get a place at Mercantile Place on Main for about $1,000/month now, and they are brand new with all the latest amenities. Downtown is generally more affordable than Uptown and just as walkable. Plus with Main Street Garden Park opening in a few months it will be even more liveable.
