Hello. We're coming back home to Texas. I will be getting my MBA at SMU. I have never lived in Dallas. I would like to know what area are close by smu to buy a condo or a house. Is the crime bad in area? Would I be near a lightrail or something?

gosh, I would think there would be something in that area. Thing is it might be expensive. Have you contacted a realtor?

Yes, the Park Cities are near SMU. Actually IN the Park Cities (Highland Park/University Park). There are a few townhomes/condos in the Park Cities but they will be on the high side. What is your price range? Look around the Knox/Henderson area and Mockingbird Station. Up and down 75-Central now there are many developments that have come up in the last year. The new Palomar is now open (hotel building and a new condo building). I saw one called West Elm. Around Northpark Mall there are a few, stay on the West side of 75 right there though. You don't want in the old Villages as the crime is high around there.

just wondering: I've noticed that some of the houses in the park citites have an apartment/living space over the garage. Do homeowners rent these out to the SMU students?

SMU is in the Park Cities area. I love the area. I live close by there. The housing is very expensive, but great. It depends on your price range, because it can get VERY expensive. There is some crime, but is not terribly bad in those parts.

Park cities is most privilage neighborhood in Dallas. A lot of wealthy people. I lived there for six months around 2001. But it seems very chic and yuppie to me. So I left for more middle class neighborhood in West Plano. When I rented there, I never feel unsafe.

Houses or condos near SMU would be pricey. There are all sorts of neighborhoods with easy access to SMU where you could find a house or condo, purchase or rental. Maybe some guidance from you would elicit some helpful detail. You might look at Oak Lawn, UpTown or Greenville.

Dart has a light rail station on Mockingbird, just across US75 from SMU. It's a pretty cool shopping area and does have some condos. There's probly a shuttle to SMU as well. UpTown has a light rail connection at CityPlace, one stop from Mockingbird Station, on the Red Line.
