The L-Streets area of Lake Highlands will fall in the $200 and below range - but size is not going to be what you have in Plano.

Unfortunately that is where the arts district is, but not where most of the art is produced. It has some great museums, but if you want to see locally produced art (including theatre) you will have to venture elsewhere, but we have lots of it.

+1, Also look at Munger Place, and Junius Heights

What you have described is Plano not Dallas. Nothing wrong with Plano it is right for a lot of people, but it sounds like it isn't right for you.

Lake Highlands YMCA has just about all you'll need for soccer, etc. In East Dallas - there's White Rock YMCA.

It isn't nearly as challenging as you may have been told.

White Rock YMCA (formerly East Dallas Y) Home Page I practically grew up at the Y. The director who is 'retiring' grew up there too...

You can get all that through the YMCA. My son hasn't started that but friend have said it is excellent. There are a couple in the East Dallas area

Okay -I just looked and there are only a handful (like 5) Elementary schools in Dallas that are Exemplary and they don't seem particularly diverse.

Look at Lipscomb Elementary.
Exemplary k-3 will be adding a year each year until it covers the full Elementary School years. Very diverse, Great Principal, Involved Parents.

Pulls from the Junius Heights, Swiss Avenue, and some of Munger Place area. In adddition if you live nearby in a bad school area the principal said, "I'll take you, but the deal is you have to get involved."

Hmm sounds like it's worth checking out -sounds like a great principal- but they are listed as 362/410 students that are Hispanic. Which is the overwhelming majority I'm running from here in Plano -just a different race.

William Lipscomb Elementary School, Dallas Texas / TX school information

This is hard - I'm not sure I want a fully Urban environment. Where we live is more mid-urban -not fully sub-urban, but we like it. I guess I would like reasonable housing, diversity, good schools, a sense of community and a more relaxed and open state of mind and some easy access to fun stuff along with good food and international influences. Is there such a thing in Dallas?
