Default New to Irving

Hello I am Lea. I am new to Dallas, although I was born and raised in Gonzales Texas (1 hour SW of San Antonio and 2 Hours WE of Austin). I just moved here from Oklahoma. I hated Oklahoma and I never want to go back. Not even to visit. Anyways I live in Irving, Las Colinas and I Absolutely love it. It is beautiful and peaceful. Im looking to buy a job in Frisco. I have a Bachelors degree in Psychology and a Masters Degree in Human Resources Management. It has been hard trying to get into the Human Resources Field. I am an Assistant Manager at a Mall and let's just say it is not my calling! Where are the jobs in Human Resources. Anybody!

However, the info I have read on Las Colinas looks pretty good.
My hubby is in law enforcement and I am in Human Resources. We have 3 little ones and currently we live in Buffalo, NY. I am looking forward to a change. Richardson and Grand Prairie seem interesting, too. Everyone talks about the hectic traffic. I am a park and ride person myself and the DART seems sufficient to me. If the NYC subway doesnt bother me, I guess I can handle the DART and TRE. Any shared info would be great. Thanks.
I like hearing "moving to Dallas" it gives me a sense that my city is not as inferior as people say it is LOL (which it is not IMO)
I live in Irving, I actually do live in Las Colinas. Valley Ranch is another nice part, but Irving a jail? Hardely. They do have that immigration thing going on so if you end up in southern Irving (or even in Las Colinas) and look Mexican they will stop you. There is Racial Profiling going on they're not going to admit it though. I am half mexican if you were wondering, although most people say I look Asian(I'm half Chinese) I can pass as Hispanic. ANYWAYS.
if thats the only reason its a jail, then thats a bad reason. IMO Irving in a nice city, the southern part is mostly Hispanic no doubt. It tend to be a little old too, but it pretty safe IMO. I mean I wouldn't mind going out in the middle of the night for a walk, I've done it before in southern Irving. What do you mean by jail? What makes him think that it is a jail here? Just cerious cause he maybe right, I really will be honest for you, i may be forget some hole in the wall facts but uhh... otherwise I think its a nice place.

The DFW area is very diverse, as momof2 stated. You won't have any problems diversity wise.

As far as hating Oklahoma as lowella stated (in her VERY FIRST post on this forum... hmmm...), I love the state, but that's where I'm from so I'm a bit biased.

But, back on the topic of DFW; it's a huge metropolis with tons and tons to do. As far as ten-minute commutes, they are possible if you live in the vicinity of your job. And DART rail is outstanding, in my opinion, and it's growing more every year.

You sound like you have a fantastic attitude and you will do very well here with an attitude like that.

Welcome to Texas!

With the exception of maybe snow skiing (like all the Southern States), what can't you do in TX that you can do anywhere else? Seriously...I'm curious? I mean...there are lakes, shopping, water parks, parks, etc., etc., etc. everywhere you look. I've been to and lived in a lot of cities, and I personally can't find anything in one that I can't find in another.

Well, what can I say, don't believe anything you hear and only half of what you see! And, I'd love to know what was meant by the "Irving being like a jail without walls" comment?

Irving is very diverse... Las Colinas (zip 75038) and Valley Ranch (zip 75063) are very nice, clean areas with great homes, along with shopping, restaurants, walking trails, waterways, parks, great school districts (Coppell ISD and Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD (CFBISD) and only 15 minutes from the DFW Airport, etc. There is a Dart Station located at I635 just east of MacArthur Blvd with a direct bus to downtown Dallas as well as Dart bus service throughout Las Colinas and Valley Ranch, 'though there are no traffic issues within these two communities. (The Dart Rail system has not yet made it to the area... it's been approved but still will be another 2-3 years before it's here.) For family living, I would recommend Valley Ranch over Las Colinas since Las Colinas is also a major corporate business district.

My second choice of the ones you mentioned would be Richardson, also diverse w/a great school district. And, you might want to look into northeast Garland (zip 75044)... another great area for families and very diverse.

Well, as they say, "seeing is believing"... so come for a visit. I promise you, you won't want to leave!
