If you go to Fair Park, don't miss the Esplanade:

1936 Texas Centennial Celebration

Also the The Hall of State at Fair Park, Dallas, Texas

Wow, I'm impressed. I just posted last night and already have some great ideas. I'm looking forward to seeing some of these places.

Drive all the way down Swiss to the Meadows blocks near downtown. After visiting downtown (be sure to get some tomatoes at Farmer's Market - Lemley's or Bettye's) drive back up through Uptown by the Ritz and Crescent up Cedar Springs which then turns into Turtle Creek Blvd. Be sure to look to the left at Gillespie for The Mansion on Turtle Creek - up around Blackburn look to the right for Frank Lloyd Wright's Dallas Theater Center. Go up to Lakeside Park, visit Highland Park Village, then go on Beverly Drive to Bishop and go up Bishop to SMU.
Isn't W. Lawther southbound closed for construction?

And at Beverly's intersection with Bishop, Bishop is called Abbott Avenue. Turn right on Abbott, go through the light at Mockingbird, and you are on Bishop which is the main road through SMU's campus.

Thanks awecelot -- I was intending to look at the map. I just go where I want to go and pay little attention to the names of the streets! And actually you would go north on Abbott or left if you are coming from Lakeside.

Yes I think Lawther may still be northbound only now that you mention it. So... start at SMU and go backwards!

You are right...it is a left coming from Lakeside.

Lakewooder - do you know why Lawther is northbound only through that stretch? It seems like it has been that way for at least a year now.

I was just thinking about the Zoo. Somebody mentioned the Dallas Zoo. We have been to the Zoo during a hot day and all the animals are trying to keep cool in their little houses. Sounds like a great plan to me. We only were able to visit with a few of the animals that day. Save a trip to the Zoo for another cooler day. If I may, I feel the Ft. Worth Zoo is a much better presentation of animals and much more enjoyable. Avoid going on a school holiday because the "Zoo" is actually the hords of people visiting the wild animals. Get there early while it's feeding time.

I go to the zoo often in the summer, but the key is to get there when they open. At 9:00 the animals are all still out and about, as you get toward noon that changes, and they all disappear.
