Hi, we are moving to Lewisville next weekend and will be living in a 715 square foot apartment (ceiling fans included) with a 6-month lease.

I would like to hear thoughts on which electric company we should use, and we are interested in going with one that offers a fixed rate.

Also, we would like to sign up for high-speed internet (preferably cable internet), but probably not cable TV or phone...which company would be best to go with?

Thanks in advance for your comments!

If Verizon is available in your area then go with them for high speed internet. Ask the apartment office and they'll be able to tell you the local provider. You'll pretty much have to choose from the cable company or the phone company.

As far as electricity is concerned I would go look the rates up on powertochoose.org. I personally use Gexa and have never had a problem with them.

You might ask your apartment office about this. More and more larger apartment complexes are packaging Internet, TV and Phone themselves and you don't have a choice. That was the case with a friend of mine who just happens to be a Geek Freak. You can imagine how frustrating that was to him. If you're just going to be there for 6 months, go with what ever electric is available. Probably TXU. Why,.. the competitive other companies often require a 12 to 24 month contract. Besides, the difference in six months couldn't be much. Ya think? Maybe TXU has a six month deal.

Verizon FiOS is what I have at home (the whole enchilada, TV Internet and Phone) but at my office, my Internet is Time Warner Cable. At home it's TXU but we have a special 24 month contract at a more competive rate than month to month.
