Hello all

I am a 30 year African American single female ready for a new direction in my life. I have been in the Social Work field for several years, and to be honest I am burnt out. I would like to pursue a new career and I would like to network with other professionals in addition to moving to some new scenery. I have a friend strongly trying to convince me to move to Dallas from Michigan. (I have lived in Michigan all of my life) I have been doing some research and I really think that Dallas may be the place for me to have a new start. I definitely want to make this move by the end of the year.

I just don't know where to start, any suggestions?

My first question would be have you ever been to Dallas? I moved sight unseen before and wouldn't reccommend it. I had one friend in Atlanta telling me that Atlanta was okay after she moved there from CA. Well turns out she is not too happy there and just feels stuck for the past ten yrs! What a way to go thru life.
Also have you decided what type of career change you want? Are you going to go back to school in Dallas?

I would say get a pen and pad out and honestly write down what you really want out of a career and a new location. Then research the Dallas area and visit. Just because yr friend loves it doesn't mean you will even like it.
The dirty thirties is still young!

Considering the job situation in Michigan, I would say a move to Dallas would be good. It really depends on how you can cope with being so far away from family and friends. If you make friends easy the transition will be much smoother. The holidays can really be a bummer but everything revolves around how fast can you adapt. The job market here is certainly better.
