I have only been to Dallas twice and am in desperate need for some help. I am looking for a 2 bedroom apartment/townhouse with garage parking within about 30 minute driving distance to Garland. In terms of rent, want to be less than $1400.

I don't want to be in the super suburbs since I am moving from Arlington, VA - which is very urban (I hear similar to Uptown in Dallas). I'd like to be close to restaurants and things. Safety is a big thing -- I'd prefer to be a high rise or a gated community of some sort. Thoughts?

Have you thought about Garland itself? There is Parkside at Firewheel which is midrise. I believe they have a parking garage, but not actual garages. You would have tons of shopping and dining outside your door.

There is also The Block 24 on the Richardson Garland border. It's a mixed used new urbanism style development. They have tons of on site amenities, but the commercial aspect of the development is not well established.

There are some loft type apartments in downtown Plano as well. They have a DART rail line nearby which is really convenient. Downtown Plano has its own neat little stores and restaurants. Plus like every big box store known to man is a couple miles away.

I believe part of the old Nortel campus on 75 in Richardson is being converted to urban lofts.

There is also Mockingbird station in Dallas.

Hello again, it's me, Korel.

Try an Apartment Finder Service. It's free to the user and the apartments pay for the service.

There is also a place called the Winstead which is in Dallas, but real close to Garland. I know they have some 2 bed plans with garages and I think they have a gate. It is on the edge of Lakewood which puts you in great proximity to tons of shopping, dining, and arts. It is much more like Arlington, VA than what you will find in the more traditional suburban areas of Dallas.
