When the next building/growth cycle comes around in DFW, one of the hot spots will be "Windsor Hills" in the northwest corner of Ellis County around the southeast edge of Joe Pool Lake in the Midlothian school district. A developer platted the area for 5,000 lots about 2 years ago. The area runs along the north side of Hwy 287 about a mile west of Hwy 67 in Midlothian. Half of the development is in Grand Prairie and the other in Midlothian. When this development is complete, it will increase the population of Midlothian by about 50% and probably get its own high school.

I would guess that development begins around the time that construction on Loop 9 goes underway. Loop 9 is a highway that will run from Hwy 287 and go primarily east-west along the Dallas-Ellis County line just above Ferris then swing north-east just east of Seagoville and then north on to I-20. Construcion on Loop 9 will be around 2012 to 2015. Once Loop 9 is in, Windsor Hills will have easy access to Hwy 287, Loop 9, Hwy 67 and the new extension of Hwy 360.

Windsor Hills will be flanked on the east by Ashgrove and about 3 miles north of TXI, two of Midlothian's 3 concrete plants. So the debate about the health effects of those plants will heat up. In the end, I think the home buyers will still come...and the overwhelming majority will be happy they did.

I'm curious to see what demographic moves in. If a large number of whites move there, does this finally begin to balance out the explosive growth north of Dallas?
