So public dissatisfaction can affect a city organization's decisions in Dallas after all

"Still, he acknowledged that the storm of protesters had an effect on zoo officials’ rethinking the plan to send her to Mexico."

Yeah, less than ideal, but it sounds like they are stepping up the schedule for the new habitat, and I understand the concern about the trip. It is rather like packing a 90 year old off on a long trip.

Ya I saw the story about her on the news and I am glad they decided not to send her to Mexico.

I agree that she should have been sent to Mexico where animals have NO RIGHTS. But to keep her in that small, depressing enclosure is not a good move (or non-move) either.

I'm glad she's not going to Mexico, but I'm sad she will remain alone in her small enclosure for the foreseeable future. I hope the Dallas Zoo is able to get another African Elephant to be her companion soon, and that Jenny will stick around long enough to see the new elephant habitat completed.
The Elephant Sanctuary would have been a good option, but there were still the hurdles of travel, and new caretakers, so I guess there's not really a perfect solution to this problem. Kudos to the Dallas Zoo for reconsidering and choosing what is probably the best of the given options.

Yep. We can debate whether keeping her at the zoo is the best or second best option, but at least the worst option is no longer happening. I mean sending an animal with a fear of vehicles to a drive through facility in Mexico. What were they thinking?
