DALLAS - Everything is bigger in Texas, especially the calorie counts at the State Fair, which will offer such delicacies this year as deep- fried s'mores and a fried banana split.

The State Fair of Texas begins late next month, and a competition is being held to honour its tastiest fried fare. The eight finalists were announced Wednesday.

They had one that really got me excited but then it went TOO FAR over the top. The State Fair of Texas is one of those gastrointestinal feasts. You can only eat a Fletchers Corny Dog at the State Fair. We don't eat like this everyday.

Btw, the one I liked and might see about perfecting to our tastes is the Fried Pineapple. The contestant battered and deep fried a pineapple ring, topped it w/ banana flavored whipped cream then froze it w/ liquod nitrogen and topped it w/ strawberries and strawberry syrup. WAY TOO SWEET! Too many flavors mixed as well. I'd prefer to have the pineapple battered and fried and then topped w/ either a small scoop of home made vanilla ice cream or dusted in powdered sugar. Darn, I'm hungry now.

The Fried Coke from a few years ago was eh. Tasted like doughy donut holes and then covered in syrup and topped w/ whipped cream. I tried it.

As long as they have corn dogs, I'm happy.
