Hello everyone,

I currently reside in Tulsa, OK and am majoring in automotive technology at a four year university, as well as working/interning at a Honda dealer. I have visited Dallas and its suburbs since the year 2003 and have fallen in love. I have always wanted to live in north Dallas and plan on relocating to Dallas after I graduate in two years. I am familiar with getting around in Farmers Branch, Addison, Carrollton, Plano, and Frisco and I must say that the roads are amazing to drive on IMO. (I love driving down Marsh Ln, Beltline Road, and Preston Road). The weather does not bother me and I just love the whole vibe and atmosphere in Dallas. My dream is become a Honda master certified automotive technician in what better city than Dallas. My plan is to find a nice condo or house for under 100k in a safe area in Plano, Texas or in the 75287 zip code in Dallas, or any safe area in north Dallas. I was also looking at David McDavid Honda of Frisco as an amazing job opportunity. Any advice or suggestions for this ambitious 21 year old would be greatly appreciated. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of vehicles with Texas license plates (some with TX tags on the front and OK tags on the rear, who have relocated here) in Tulsa, OK and it is a great place to live, but I am ready to spend my last two years of the millenium in OK, and start off the year 2010 right in Dallas, TX and move on with my life. (Technically, I will be graduating in August of 2010). I am glad to be a part of this great forum. Thank you guys.

If you are single I would recommend moving to Addison. Plano mostly consists of married families, and an older crowd. In Addison there is a good night life, and nice city feel without actually being in the city. Most younger singles enjoy the area, and being young an married, I still find myself down there from time to time. As you get older and settle down more you can start moving further north, just a thought.

aaronyoung777,

I really do appreciate your input about where I could live in north Dallas. Addison is a really nice city and I am no particularly in a rush to have a family. I visualize driving down Belt Line Road in Addison and I just love it. After graduating from school in two years, I am still planning on relocating to north Dallas on my own, finding probably a condo to live in, and transferring to some Honda dealer, and live my dream, really. I wanted to ask you if Carrollton is similar to Plano, Frisco, Allen, etc. (as you go more north) as far as cities to settle down with your family. Thank you again for the response and I will definitely consider Addison.

Carrollton is an older area in terms of houses. Carrollton would be a good place to buy a first home, but there's not much going on there. In relation to Plano/ Frisco, there really is none compairison. Frisco is new and trendy, Plano was the old Frisco several years ago, both areas have $$$$ which equals lots to do. Again Frisco is going to be more mid 30's married with 2.5 kids picket fence, wife is hot, but hooked on pain killers yadda yadda.

Thanks again for your response,

I remember driving in west Plano and seeing McMansions and million dollar homes and I'm thinking to myself man, that's so crazy. I think it was Park Blvd, Preston Rd, Parker Rd, Spring Creek Pkwy, Legacy Dr, to name a few streets I saw these homes. I am assuming by the time I finish in two years with school and work, I should have enough money to at least put a down payment on a condo, just to get my foot in the door. But yes, Addison, I will check out, as well as Carrollton, if I decided to put a down payment on a small home.

I'm just curious... are there condos in the mentioned areas for under $100,000? I thought Addison was pretty upscale sort of.

I was actually wondering about that myself because $100,000 or less is also my price range.

I was also wondering if you could find a 1700 sq ft. or less house for under $100,000 in a north Dallas suburb?

I live in a north Dallas suburb and bought a house that has all upgrades, stone outside, etc etc has about 2100 sq feet, really nice for $150k. The deals are out there you gotta have the right real estate agent to find them though, but it could be done. I know a great real estate agent that can find the right thing for you when you are ready. Just let me know.

I really do appreciate it, aaronyoung777. I still have a little ways before I decide to look for houses but I will definitely let you know when I am ready. I've been reading through the Dallas forum for a while and I am just amazed at the cost of living in Dallas. I do hope it stays low in mid 2010. Tulsa, OK has always have a low cost of living and we have so many Texans and other states relocating in the area, its impressive (Nothing against it, of course). But yes, I want to say that by August of 2010, I will feel well established and ready to relocate to north Dallas to live and work. It has been a lot time dream of mine. Thanks again, aaronyoung777.
