Hello,

I am considering moving to Dallas. I have been doing a lot of research and have found that there are two major apartment companies in the Uptown area: Gables and Post. Has anyone rented from these companies, and if so, what was your experience (good or bad)?

Also, I had a bankruptcy a few years ago, due to a business failure (I had a sole propretorship business structure, so my business debts were in my own name, and when the business failed, I had to go to the last resort, and file Chapter 7, so that I could move on with my life). That was three years ago; is there anyone here who has a similar experience as mine, and tried to rent from either company? In other words, have you filed bankruptcy and then applied to rent from these companies in the Uptown area? Since my BR, I *have* been able to rent a couple apartments here in my hometown in California, but I also got turned down by two separate landlords here because of the bankruptcy. I know each person's situation and credit report is unique, but I just want to find out if anyone here has applied to rent thru them with a BR on their credit and if they were flatly turned down, or if they were successful, etc. The two companies charge approx. $85 per application, so, if renting thru these companies is not possible, I would like to save the money. I asked them over the phone if they will accept my application, and all they told me was "All you can do is apply, and we will see what happens".

Thanks in advance for everyone's input!

Just a follow-up: I applied thru one of the companies for the apartment of my choice, and was approved, so it looks like, for my specific scenario, things worked out ok.

I live in a Gables complex and have lots of friends in others in the area, so if that's the company that accepted you and you have questions, feel free to ask.

I don't know how they operate in Dallas but in Atlanta Post usually has very nice complexes. Not setting the world on fire in terms of buildings but the buildings were very well maintained and managed and the grounds/landscaping were top notch for rental complexes.
