I heard it so many times that people said Dallas residents are generally snotty, while Houston is much more down to earth. Any truth and reason behind it?

Well, we might have more allergens in the air causing more snot. But I always keep a tissue handy.

My wife, baby and myself are getting clobbered by the ragweed right now. SOo I can say with certainty that not only are we Dallasites snottier than Houstonians, we may be the snottiest people in the country. sure. it's the rat race in Dallas.
It is funny that Houston is actually a larger city than Dallas but Dallas considers itself more fast paced and the closest thing to NYC that Texas has

Houston is larger because it annexes, Dallas is hemmed in by suburbs. (Veering from topic, as for MTAs I think D/FW is bigger.)
Back on topic this general archetype (which does exist) may date from the days when Dallas's economy was viewed as more heavily engaged in regional banking (the regional Federal Reserve is in Dallas), insurance, electronics. The Houston economy was more heavily weighted in oil and oil and gas services, petrochemicals, refining, and ports. And then Trammell Crow built the Dallas Market Center which also reinforced the soft goods perspective.
So Dallas got the more affected image.
At least architecturally, for a long time Houston was the far more adventurous city, and may still be.

The only place in North Texas I found to be very snotty and weird was Denton.
