Every apartment building I've ever lived in has had either a washer/dryer in the apt or a laundry room. Apparently, it's looking like this apt I am subleasing has neither.

I don't drive so going to a laundromat to do laundry isn't really an option for me and there is no way I can afford to buy a w/d. I won't even be able to afford a real bed for a while.

Anyone ever use one of these Rent-a-Center places? What are the rental prices like? TIA!

I have never personally used one of those rental places, but I know people that have. From what I have heard from them it's ridiculously expensive. For what you could rent per month, you could buy a W/D set in a couple months time. It is usually a rip-off and not worth it in the long run. I know someone that was paying $40 a week just for a computer. Look for places that sell used appliances. You can sometimes get really good deals going that route.

Are they really THAT expensive?

The only problem with a used appliance center is - would they deliver and install the w/d for me? Again, I don't drive and have not a clue in the world about how to hook up a washer and dryer.

You would probably get a better deal by going to an appliance store and getting a "12 months, no interest" payment plan. But then you'd own a w/d. They usually deliver and hook up.

But then what would I do with the w/d after 5 months? lol. My sublease is only for 5 months. Plus, with all the credit checks I went through getting an apartment and getting utilities turned out, my FICO score can't take another inquiry and those 12 months no interest payment plans are usually premised on good credit.

My friend was on the phone with me while he was at work and his boss overheard him talking to me about the RAC places and she said it's 35/month to rent a W/D set.

That doesn't seem too bad.

hey,

I rent through Appliance Warehouse, and I pay $33 a month for washer and dryer. They came out and installed it for me.

That seems reasonable - especially if you are moving again in 5 months.

I think that Appliance Warehouse is what is listed on this building's website actually. I have so many questions for the management that I've made a list. Moving in 4 days so I need to get to calling them!

Thanks!

When i lived in an apartment we rented from Appliance Warehouse. The hookup we had was for a stacked washer dryer and to buy one new was close to 1k. It was much easier to rent from them. They delivered and set up the set and when we moved they picked it up.

If your only going to be there for 5 months and don't want to take the w/d with you, renting would be a good idea. I typically recommend folks buy used instead of renting for these type places but in your case it would be a good match.
