how about buying a condo/townhome on the square?

That way you can walk to the library, the snow cone lady, pizza hut park, future amenities that will be coming to the square such as a movie theatre, central park, bowling alley and just a hop skip and a jump on the tollway from dr pepper park(roughriders)

You won't have to bother with maintenance such as keeping up with weeds in your lawn.

I am just giving advice to help you with your search in Frisco...

If I were you I would head to some where a little more peaceful and not too far out from civilization like Denton.
They have a very walkable and useable downtown square.

Or if you are into lake views buy a condo in Lake Dallas with views of Lake Lewisville which will be a 15 minute drive from frisco once the new bridge is put in.
You can get the largest unit with full lakeviews with your budget.

while it is not of our business why the OP wants to retire in Frisco I would think being close to family might be consideration--just wonder if that is the case if you are sure family would not be moving
my mother considered moving to Shreveport when we were transferred there--did not work out fo them and probably good thing because we were transferred back to DFW area a year or so later...
they would have been stuck there...

Thank you for your advice. I like younger people. I have visited Fort Worth and Dallas all my life. I love the community. I plan on substitute teaching and coaching baseball at a local high school.

Default Frisco

As you know Frisco is a great area and in todays market your $350,000 will go a very long way even in a high demand area like Frisco.

The Fairways (northwest Frisco, near Teel and Eldorado) is a nice subdivision that would fit your budget. We have a wonderful HOA that does all sorts of great things for the neighborhood. And our HOA dues are very, very reasonable...only $330/year. We are also a golf course community, although you can find homes for sale here either on the golf course (at a premium price) or not.

I think you are referring to "the trails". One of the largest master planned communities of Frisco with homes built from the late 90s and there are some custom builders still there now. Price ranges go from the low 200s to the 600s.

I relo'd to NorthEast Frisco from Cali almost 5 years ago and so glad I did - Eldorado and Custer area is what I prefer. I had the luxury of making a couple of excursions here staying with friends to really check it out first. NorthWest Frisco is not bad, but I prefer the NorthEast edge being more in the "middle" of the major highways for ease of getting anywhere in the Metroplex - 5-10 mins from the Dallas Tollway, 121, and Central (75). Easy for me to get to the Frisco Square area/Stonebriar Mall if I head West, and also easy to get to the great shopping in McKinney/Allen if I head East/South. Great established neighborhoods in McKinney right across Custer like Stonebridge Ranch, yet lower taxes in Frisco on the West of Custer. Just newer and new neighborhoods peppered in more established area. All Recognized schools where I am - Ashley Elementary, Roach Middle, and Liberty High (new HS coming Fall 2009). Grand is in El Dorado Crossing I think - I would stay away from them, heard not so good things about their quality. Stonelake Estates is nice, but might be sold out it looks like. Then two new communities, Villages of Stonelakes which has their models done and looks like inventory going up, and also Winding Creek Estates which I think is more your price point. I drove through it the other day and they are getting going now. I have some retired family members moving soon so I've been driving the new neighborhoods and sending them info. So far Winding Creek looks like the frontrunner because of the pricing ($250-$350), nice sized lots, and they can do 1, 1.5, and 2-stories. And the piece of land is so gorgeous - they left acres of mature trees that buffer the main streets, there are winding walking trails and the landscaping will be incredible. KHOV is in there with their Goodman product, and also Coventry. The online "negative" will be waiting for Frisco to catch up and widen Custer at the entrance, but I think it will be worth it to get in there now actually, before that happens. Looks like they are already working on it. Prices will probably go up afterwards.

We are moving to Frisco Tx from beautiful Naperville Il where we have lived 35 years. We will retire in Frisco where our daughter lives. They just bought us a small ranch style house in The Trails. They live on the golf course on The Trails. We will retire there to escape the brutal winters of Chicago. To escape the high taxes. More importantly, to be close to the kids. Everyone has a reason why they want to retire in a certain place. Ours is the kids and future grand kids. It is the people not the place that brings you happiness.

A previous poster had mentioned the condos in Frisco square. Hadn't thought of that but might be a good option. They are adjacent to the senior center and walkable to some restaurants and shops. 5th street cafe (one of my favorite breakfast places) is a 15 minute walk. Easy drive down to Roughriders and Stonebriar church without getting on a tollroad. If you can deal with the construction for the next couple years, there is lots more coming to the square.

If that isnt your style, Frisco Lakes by Del Webb is a popular retirement community.
