If the areas south of downtown are not doing it for you then try these:

Lakewood
Rockwall

Both have a lake and you can find "hills", a lot of green areas, parks, great community involvement, good schools all the way thru high school, close to many shopping destinations and restaurant choices.

Try Lake Ridge in Cedar Hill for scenic views near Dallas, there are problems at some of the higher grade centers in certain schools around town but the lakeridge elementary is doing very well.

i might suggest southeast arlington near lake arlington. although this would be quite a commute to downtown dallas, the views are great and the public schools are excellent!
