Oh, I thought that you were meaning Lakewood had the flags. That had me confused.

I know churches like this will hang flags representing the people in their congregation that hail from these nations or they represent nations where they are supporting missions work. Or both.

Don't think it is a political thing.

But if the sermon was off setting or didn't inspire you, that is a totally different thing. There are a lot of churches here, I am sure you will find one that fits. God has a place for you, but I would suggest to not look for an exact duplicate of what you had before. God is always in the business of shaking up our comfort zones to lead us to new experiences with Him.

I love Ed Young's sermons - I catch them on TV sometimes. I like him a lot better than Joel Osteen because, although he is positive, he is also a bit more "real" and grounded, I think. I feel his sermons are a bit more biblically based. I have been wanting to go to his church, but it's a bit far from us, and I'm not sure I want to go to another location and just watch him on a big screen.

I don't know where you live....but we live in the Tyler area and Fellowship Church has opened a new campus called Allaso Ranch in Hawkins. We moved here from the DFW area and had been unable to find a church like Fellowship...but now we are thrilled. It's only been holding services for about 5 weeks...but it's growing! Ed Young is a great speaker and his topics apply to our lives. Our daughter is still involved at the Grapevine campus and loves it!

I think my own pastor, Mike Banus, is pretty positive. He's not exactly like Joel Osteen, but he does give a very upbeat message IMO. You can listen to his sermons online and get a feel for what his sermons are like through the streaming audio. As others have said, I'm not sure where you are in the metroplex. (This is in McKinney.)

Go to Fellowship Church. I loved that place when in DFW. Their main campus is in Fort Worth, but they also have campuses in Downtown Dallas, Downtown Fort Worth, Plano, and if you're on a vacation, Miami.

I live in Flower Mound and lots of people from our community swear by Fellowship for Ed Young's great sermons and also the children, youth, and single adults programs. I don't go there myself, but I think it's a great place to get connected with positive people - in my opinion, people that like Joel Osteen (I've read one of his books and seen him on TV some) would for the most part appreciate Ed Young. Best of Luck finding a good match for you!

Highpoint Church is in Arlington/Grand Prairie off I-20. The pastor is Joel Osteen's brother in law, I think.

Lake Pointe in Rockwall is very upbeat with modern music, etc.. The pastor has a great sense of humor, and him and the teaching pastor regularly have the flock rolling in the aisles.
