Tell you what, krisco, I'll let you blow smoke all over my food if you let me break wind all over yours. How's that for fair?

Forgive me, but I have very little patience for people who make life miserable for those around them in the name of individual freedom.

Yeah, because that's exactly the same thing. *eyeroll*

No one is forcing you to eat at these restaurants that allow smoking. Eating at a restaurant is a privelege. If a restaurant makes you miserable simple solution, don't go there.

No it's not; cigarette smoke is worse. It's especially worse than my "wind", which smells like roses.

I'll tell you what. If I walk up to you and exhale smoke directly onto your food, I give you permission and fully expect you to punch me square in the nose.

Also, you know what? If I had the choice to go to a restaurant that encourages people to "break wind in my food", you can be damn sure I'd not be going there. Why can't you do the same?

If we're going to stoop to being jerks, how about I let you know how little patience I have for people who are filled with self-righteous entitlement and think that because they do not want something around them, it should be against the law.

Both involve dirty, smelly fumes emitted from a bodily orifice. Both will get you a stern reprimand from the average mother. And both are best done either in private, or in the company only of people doing the same thing.

If I had a can of benzene and sprayed it randomly around a restaurant - would you not want that to be illegal? Or should it my my right to do what I want - and if people don't like it - they can just stay away from public places? Or do you feel that there is a reason we have public safety issues and laws to enforce them? I assume you feel it's wrong to have a seat belt law based on the arguments you've made above - or that having a motorcycle helmet law is infringing on someone's rights? (although these two points don't affect OTHER folks health, so it's certainly not apples-to-apples).

I think we're going to have to agree to disagree. I'll take my meals in Dallas though and refuse to eat at restaurants that allow smoking. I'll let me dollars speak. And since I'm not paying $4 for a pack of cancer sticks, I'm guessing I'll have more money to frequent restaurants and ultimately win this argument.

Brian

We are both advocating positions that involve treating opponents as second-class citizens. We're both telling the other party: "If you don't like it, go somewhere else." So who wins? I vote for the side that doesn't stink up the place.

Because that's kinda how laws work. When election time rolls around, vote for someone who vows to turn Dallas into a smoker's paradise.

Good luck...

The free market should decide, not politicians. If you don't like smoke, don't patronize the business.

I smoked for four or five years (mostly while drinking) and I quit - but I swear I am not going to turn into one of the antismokingnazis.
