Hisco Home Warranty in San Diego is the worst company. I have had home warranties for over 30 years on numerous homes. I purchased my policy in Jan. 2011. There was a 30 day 'period' until my warranty was in effect. On March 5th my cooktop shorted out. I called them for service. They sent a repair service on the 5th - was told that the part was not available. About 15 days later (after many calls to them) they sent another company out - who said the same thing. Yesterday they informed they were terminating my policy and returning my premium. I said they were required to repair or replace my cooktop. I tried to talk to the owner, Ed Adams, and he never returned my call or email. I received an email from an employee saying that they have 'rescinded' my policy and would return my premium. How can they choose to drop me, because they don't want to pay for a cooktop?!

I had AHS when I first purchased my home. It was costly to renew them and I only used them twice for a plumbing issue--which I really didn't save a whole lot of money. My outside AC died on me in the hottest month of the summer and AHS denied my claim. After this incident, I refused to renew my contract. AHS practically harrassed me for months trying to get me to renew my contract. Why renew when I already paid out of pocket for one of the biggest home expense. I chose to set aside the money I normally would pay for homewarranty and put it in a saving account. Over the years it has added up to a nice little sum for which I'm ready to use for any major home expense. If you're not disciplined to save and not use the money, then this choice is not a good one.
BTW, a couple of months ago I was sent a letter for a class action suit which was filed against AHS. They were prepared to relook at claims they had denied in the past and make restitution. Bad thing is I didn't keep any of my paperwork from the repair which was years ago.
