My husband just got a job offer to work in Irving, TX at CSC (8616 Freeport Pwy). We are starting our search for apartments. Any recommendations of nice places to live (or ones to avoid) are appreciated.

We have no children and we are young (27 and 30). We don't care about the school district. I think the maximum we want to spend on an apartment (we are also considering condo rentals) is $1,200. Obviously, if there is something that meets our needs and is nice we would love to save the extra money

We would like something in a safe area, a larger 1BR or 1BR with den (probably preferable). Also considering 2 BR. We also need to be able to move into it by mid-March (which I am hoping won't be an issue). Cat friendly is a must. We have 2 cars (we don't want to live anywhere that has street parking or an overcrowded lot). It needs to be clean (not necessarily modern) and hopefully quiet.

Everyone always asks questions like "well what do you want to get out of the neighborhood"? I don't know honestly. I am just worried about finding a clean, safe, and available place. Once I settle in and explore I'll figure the rest out!

Thanks for any feedback in advance

There are lots of "clean and safe" places in the north Irving area. A few more questions:

Do you want to be near shopping and entertainment, or in a more quiet residential area?
How long of a commute is your maximum?

In regard to the commute, how bad is the traffic actually there? Right now he commutes 20 minutes to work. I don't think we would want to commute much longer than that.

I think we would prefer a quieter area, with the ability to drive to nearby "entertainment", but we have no strong preference either way.

There's lots of new apartments close to the job. I would focus on buildings with a parking garage, over the garden style complexes. I think they are safer and keep your car safe from the elements.

Areas with a close commute, with nice apartments:

Lake Carolyn area in Las Colinas
Valley Ranch
Downtown Grapevine
Cypress waters

Look at the new Grapevine Station Apartments. They will be an easy drive to work, and they are within your price range.

Valley Ranch is very nice and safe. Almost anywhere on MacArthur Blvd is nice. Las Colinas too. Those would be my only choices in Irving. Other than that, look to Grapevine and Coppell. Las Colinas is the prettiest though...more lakes and trees.
