Hi,

I have a pending divorce/child custody modification suit and was hoping anyone with experience in the Collin County court system can talk generally about their experience specifically about the judges.

I have tried to do some research and am reading some disturbing comments about how biased some of the judges are towards fathers versus mothers and am wondering if maybe those are just isolated cases or if there was any merit to it.

Any comments or private messages are welcome, thanks!

Default Re:

Several years ago, in Collin County, I was on a jury (!) to determine child custody. In my opinion, the judge was moderately tilted towards the mother. My fellow jury members, on the other hand, were ridiculously biased towards the mother.

In my own analysis, the mother had the slightly stonger case, but it was frustrating to sit on a jury where several people were clearly not even considering the evidence, and blindly supporting the mother.

Long story short, the judge may not give the dad a fair shake, but a jury certainly will not. So don't take the jury option.

I personally know of one father who won (from a judge) primary physical custody without mom being a crackhead. But that's uncommon.

The particular judge on my case has a reputation of ruling against adulterers. So if mom is the cheater, the odds of dad getting the kids goes way up. I don't think he's supposed to consider that, but that's how he rolls.

That's my very slightly informed 2 cents. YMMV.

Thanks, I'm actually the mother We were divorced several years ago in another state and by trying to be more than fair to my ex, I kind of got the short end of the straw so to speak. Now I'm trying to do whats right by my kids and he of course wants things to stay the way they are.

I had read some comments about the judge we have that he is really biased towards giving custody to fathers even when it isn't warranted so that scares me a bit.

I haven't had any experience in the divorce realm, but in criminal cases, the DA's office is terrible. Lazy, arrogant, and frankly not real bright. I think it's a global issue with Collin County court system.

Well, we have a meeting this Friday with our lawyers to get the issues on the table and to discuss settlement possibilities. I guess we'll see how that goes and maybe we won't need to go to court.
