It is November and I plan on leasing a home in June of 09. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I go about doing this? I've always either lived in a house or leased an apartment.

When should I start the process?
Who should I use to help with the process...realator or individual?
If I do go with individual how do I find someone?
If I go with a relator will I have to pay for services?

I must be out of my current place by May 31st and I'm moving my mother in with my child and me.

I just need some guidance. I really want to stay in the area I am in due to my child and school. Yet, I'm not stuck to this area. I'm not sure what my best route would be in order to make all this happen.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The number one thing....make sure your credit is in good shape. Most of the decent places are all running credit and background checks. At this point most of the places can't tell you what homes they will have open in June...most places require a 60 day notice to vacate.

I sent you a dm with a name of someone that owns rental property in that area.

Oh, and if you have a dog or plan on getting one that is A-OKAY with her as she LOVES THEM!!! She is one of the few landlords that actually LOVES renters that have dogs. LOL!!! Well, dogs that don't tear up anything and the owners are responsible for them Most of her houses when someone moves out she goes in and completely remodels practically. New carpet and flooring, paint, etc.

Hi we did this last year and rented for our first six months in dallas before deciding where to buy a house. We used a realtor since, as someone else mentioned, it costs nothing. They get the first month's rent from the landlord or something like that. They have full access to the MLS and should have a fair amount of knowledge about the area and what to watch out for in contracts etc.

With rentals, since people give usually a 30 day notice, you will have constant inventory. So April is probably the best time to start looking in your case. Unless the house needs a lot of fixing after the previous tenant vacated, then it would be on the market vacant from the get go.
