I was wondering if there is a "main shopping street" in Dallas? Or, if not, is there one planned?

For example, my girlfriend and I live in Chicago, and we have Michigan Avenue, it is a wide boulevard with wide sidewalks, and has most of the stores that one would find in a regular shopping mall. It is popular with both tourists and Chicagoans. Is there anything comparable, or planned, in Dallas?

I was driving through downtown Dallas and thinking that one of the main streets (Commerce Street??) would be ideal for this type of shopping environment and would draw many people into downtown.

Dallas used to have this type of shopping downtown on Main back in the 1960s when my Dad was a young man. Unfortunately, it kind of died off in the 1970s when malls started being built. Now, people prefer to go to the malls to shop...

There is not an actual main shopping street in Dallas, like what some cities have like Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, but there is some streets in the Dallas area that have a lot of stores, like Preston Road in Frisco and Harry Hines Blvd. There is also some other ones and I think it would be a great idea to have a street like that in downtown Dallas.

Aaahhh, Preston Road or Highway 289. Such a fun road to drive down with many businesses, shopping, etc.

Our Michigan Ave is either Northpark or the Galleria.

There is nothing that compares to Michigan Avenue. We have lots of strip centers with the standard shops and then we have a lot of malls like the Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg... Several of those here.

Depending on your tastes, you may find cedar springs shops to have some very nice things. I like some of the shops there. Its not like the street-shops of south beach in Miami, but it has a nice variety of imported clothing. If it fits your bill, its a good deal.

Otherwise, yes malls I guess are the thing here. Thats why I shop during the week because on the weekends, forget about finding a parking space.
