I would look at Coppell for sure. There is a great heavily treed neighborhood there called Northlake Woodlands with lots of beautifully updated homes. Wonderful schools and you're looking at a 30 minute commute to Parkland.

We were in your position last July and after many hours on the internet, we decided to relocate to Flower Mound. It's about 20 miles northeast of parkland. I work at St. Paul's -- about 1/2 mile away from Parkland. I can respond to a 2am callout in about 20mins, but the morning and evening commute take 45mins-1hour. The schools are rated 10/10 (greatschools.net)----BUT--- BE SURE THE HOUSE YOU PICK IS MORE THAN TWO MILES AWAY FROM THE SCHOOL - the brilliant minds in charge here in the state of texas feel it is acceptable for children of all ages to walk up to 4 miles a day (rain or shine) and they will not provide bus service if you live within 2 miles of the school.

I live in Flower Mound also and most parents drop their kids off and pick them up from school.
Each elementary school offers an after-school program until about 5:30 or 6 pm. I'm not sure about all middle schools, but my daughter's allows them to stay in the school cafeteria until about 5:30. We love the schools here - they are really wonderful. Mike151 is right about the 2 mile bus policy.

Many areas of Dallas will give you a short drive to Parkland ( think 20 minutes or less in rush hour.) and are nice older homes. It would help to know you price range. You may also want to look at the area around Midway/I35..and the neighborhoods around Forest Lane/Midway/Marsh Lane?
