We have a 3000 sf home and during the summer our electric is $650-850 a month. The past 5 years have been the same. Our home is 4 bedroom. 4 adults 2 children. We have Ambit energy. One of the best with rates at .097 per kw. August 2014 was the highest $867!

Something is wrong in your house. We live in a 1950's 3000sf home and have NEVER had an electric bill over $500. We sleep at 67-68 degrees year round and pretty much always have the heat or AC running. You should get a HVAC crew out to figure out what is running up your bill and how to fix it. Even if you have to spend a few grand, you'll easily recoup the cost in a year or less due to lower monthly bills.

Me and my family are looking to move up that way because of the booming job market and endless opportunities. I was wondering if anyone who has a similar situation could tell me what the average of each of their utiilities cost them per month. Thanks in advance.
I have lived in several 2 bedroom apartments in Dallas. I have never had an $800 electric bill. I found the electric bill varied based on a lot of factors. Age of building, quality of the construction and insulation, floor of apartment, square footage, which direction the apartment faces and so on.

Here are the results, all the apartments were between 1000 to 1200 square feet.
2/2 apartment, 20 year old building, West facing, 1st floor, highest bill $175.
2/2 apartment, 9 year old building, West facing, 2nd floor, highest bill $250
2/2 apartment, 1 year old building, West facing, Transom windows, French Doors, 4th floor highest bill $250.
2/2 apartment, brand new building, South West facing, 3rd floor highest bill in the middle of the summer or dead of winter $85. (this was in the last 12 months)
4/2 2 story split level large 2500 square foot house, 25 years old, West facing, 2 story entry way mostly glass, highest bill $475. After filming the windows, putting up shades, putting new insulation in attic, radiant barrier in attic, updating the HVAC system, and sealing every thing I could find the next summer the highest bill was $260.
