This should give us a little autonomy, as IB program mandates will supersede DISD 3700 Ross misguided 'maneuvers'.

My feelings about the IB program are "eh" in general, but did you know Plano had the IB program, a long, long time ago?

Yes Garland High has been the most often-mentioned program since we have been pursuing this for the last 18 months.

Building on the foundation - Lakewood, Dallas, TX

Building on the foundation
Posted October 1, 2009, 10:39 a.m. by Bruce Felps

Adding to its pantheon of scholarships, charities, organizations, councils, and all-‘round swellness, Woodrow Wilson High School now has its own nonprofit foundation.

The Woodrow Wilson High School Community Foundation, according to the official release, will serve as a “resource for Woodrow Wilson High School, the elementary schools and middle school in the feeder pattern, and other individuals and causes that are closely connected to the Woodrow community.”

Its big task straight out of the box, and kind of the genesis for its existence, is to support the International Baccalaureate Program..

I think it is fantastic news and actually changes my view of Lakewood. I would move to a district specifically for the IB program. It is an exceptional program in my opinion. Other schools have the IB, but you must live in their area to attend or try to get in through a transfer which is not guaranteed and could be quite far from where someone lives.

I wish them luck and hope they are accepted by the IBO.

Now if schools in Dallas would just catch up with rest of the nation in realizing the importance of dual language primary school programs (Mandarin, French, Spanish in particular). Dallas is way behind on this, compared to the other places I have lived which ALL have options for students whose parents would like them to attend dual language programs starting in K. This increased cultural understanding, as well as fluency in a 2nd language, would also mesh very well with the IB program in later years.
