I think it has more to do with trying to attract physicians to rural areas. $$$$

Default Where are you from originally?

Nobody who lives in Paris gives a second thought to driving to McKinney ~ or Dallas for that matter ~ I guarantee you that Paris offers more than Melissa!

My husband commuted for nearly 2 years from Paris to Las Colinas....it aged him at least 10!

I have a neighbor who commutes 2x/week from Plano to Paris. Strikes me as crazy.

I agree with a previous poster - if you're looking for city life, Melissa is even more "country" than Paris, so you aren't gaining anything. Better off biting the bullet and living in Paris. Another option might be to live in Bonham or Commerce - reasonable commute to work and within striking distance of DFW. Commerce is a college town, so there'd be a little bit of culture present.

You're spot on FND. I just sold a house this past weekend to a physician in Forney. He has to commute to Paris twice a week and 2 more times to Richardson.

Greenville would still be over an hour but may be the only alternative to a big city. You may want to explore it.

I realize this post is a couple of years old, but for newbies who may be searching, I'll make one more comment......Melissa may be 'country' but it's just 15 min. from great shopping/dining/medical facilities. Paris is an hour and half from shopping any better than JC Penney and dinner any better than Furr's Cafeteria. However, I'd still choose Paris if I were working there.

Besides the commute being long, it can also be impossible sometimes......this is North Texas and we have some harsh spells of weather than make the roads treacherous a few times each winter - this area doesn't have much road equipment capable of handling ice and snow. Also, there are good schools in Paris (specifically North Lamar ISD, which is near the hospital district)....Melissa has grown so fast that the schools are just now catching up to the population and has a ways to go in quality and tradition. Melissa is just a collection of houses at this point (many in foreclosure) - not much real 'hometown' feel to it yet. There are many beautiful homes in the edges of Paris (near the hospital) with beautiful large lots and trees.....I'm sure most of the hospital employees live in that area and would provide social activities and friendships that you would miss out on living 100 miles away. Also, Paris Jr College is an important part of the community and offers activites and entertainment to the community.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both towns, of course....it just depends on where your priorities are.
