Plano is nice. Its a bit of a hike though to downtown. I know because I drive the 25 miles one way every day.

Addison has some nice areas and is closer than all the places you mentioned.

The problem with Addison is a severe lack of housing. The average house price in Addison more than twice the state average.

Addisson's city limits are small as is the population. A lot of what people think of as Addison is actually far north Dallas, even Carrollton or Richardson. You have to have a map to know where one starts and the other begins.

A tie between Lewisville and Frisco. Addison is a cool city closer to Dallas but is a very tiny city.

Carrollton is pretty nice...but west plano is even nicer and has one of the better school districts in the area (very close/next to Carollton). Both cities are very clean. Lived in Frisco for 3 years..nice but congested and the commute to Downtown would be a major pain.

Well most of the best and unique restaurants are in Oak Lawn/Uptown up to Park Cities and over to

Lakewood - like this one: http://lakewood-now.net/view/article/8660

It doesn't have to be perfect but I always believe that it doesn't cost anything to go outside and keep your lawn neat and junk free. Even here I've seen some cute little houses that would be some much nicer if the lazy homeowner would put the remote control down and pick up all the broken and faded toys in the front yard. A little elbow grease goes a long way.

Carrolltown is a suburnites w*t dream. If you have children, and are looking for a quiet lifestyle, you'll love it.
