Moving within 35 miles of current Dallas residence and we need movers who can pack up and store our belongings without unpacking them at their storage facility. Last time movers (Longhorn Moving) lost a ton of stuff and even delivered another client's property to our home. Hundreds of dollars of lost items and we got a $60 settlement. (They were great for a prior same day move without storage.) Needless to say we want a two-touch operation this time. Load and store for a few days and don't touch stuff again until unloading at the new place.

Any suggestions?

I think that you might be looking for something like this. Moving Containers from United Mayflower Container Services From their website: "The Do-It-Yourself Plus option includes packing and/or loading services. This option allows you to choose how much help you want based on your needs and budget. United Mayflower Container Services arranges for these additional services to be performed by agents of its sister companies, United Van Lines and Mayflower Transit, which have the expertise to pack and load household goods items."

Basically it is like a POD The Best Moving & Storage Idea Ever for Self Storage, Portable Moving and Storage Solutions | PODS (a storage container that they drop off and you can fill it how you want to then they com and pick it up and store it until you want it again and they come and drop it off) except they can come and do some of or all the moving for you. Or you can probably do the POD route and just hire the movers to move it in and out off the thing.

BC, I JUST visited their site. We have some belongings already in a POD warehouse. They quoted $400-plus per container for additional PODS to be delivered to our current address and then to final address.

This is an option, but a few years ago I talked to a moving company that brought a cargo container, loaded it for you, dropped it at their storage facility and then delivered to final destination where they unloaded the container and moved stuff in. That's really the best option for us... Will keep United Mayflower in mind... Thanks for the info!

we made a local move--just 3 or 4 miles--and used a Dallas moving company
they are full service--have packing/storing services available
I was pleased with them--many of their movers are firemen working off hours
the second time we just wanted some furniture moved and the guys they sent were nice/good but they were not firemen...

I used MoveStar -- you can Google them
they have good reviews on Angies List and Better Business Bureau
they DO charge by hour vs by job/piece/action--and their time starts when they leave their warehouse and stops when they get back--with time out for lunch I guess but with our house move--they went through drive through and ate in the truck coming to second house...

they made a second move because that truck was too small to take everything but frankly I think the time came out the same because some of them stayed at the new house and assembled the stuff like beds that they took down...

give them a call--bids are free

Thank, L2R. This operation looks great, especially if they crate items as it appears in a photo on their homepage. Sent a request for an online quote, but will be sure to call on Monday. Thanks a bunch!

Also, I did another quick search around and I have seen these guys before.
http://www.upack.com/moving-services/Default.asp You can pack it and put it in the cube thing and they will store it and move or you can also utilize their services (much like the Mayflower deal I think.)

Here is the Pack and Load option: http://www.upack.com/packload/packload.asp

Don't use apple moving. We lost a bunch of stuff from them (actually they didn't lose it...they stole it). I was happy initially until I realized we had expensive camping equipment stolen.
