Hey, the gf got a job at Dallas Aboretum and is moving to town in a few weeks. Just by searching online she has decided she wants to live at the Vista Del Lago apartments. They are close but wondering if ayone had any opinions on them or the area for a mid 20's single female new to the area.

Thanks in advance.

It's not a bad area. We used to live across the street in Little Forest Hills. There isn't a whole lot of nightlife in the area, but Greenville Avenue and Uptown are not far away. The only thing that I lamented about living over there was the lack of good grocery stores. The Albertons's in Casa Linda was NOT clean and my husband saw a rat there!

VdL is totally fine. There's also The Verandah - a Power Property. And The Winsted. All with ppl your age in the area.
I know a family that was living in VdL and never heard a complaint from them. But they had to move because and elderly parent was moving in w/ them.

I live in the area behind Little Forest Hills. The Albertson's over here is kinda lame - I only shop there on an emergency basis. But there's a Whole Foods nearby at the corner of Abrams/Gaston.

It's ok if she's not running or biking around the lake during the night, etc. I live around that area.

She'd probably have more fun on the west side of the lake - pepper has some good suggestions. Talk to Mary Brinegar, the director of the Arboretum, she grew up in Lakewood.

I lived in VDL for a little over a year when I first moved to Dallas. This was five years ago. I liked. At the time I was 25. I'd recommend it. I loved being close to the lake, but as others have said, the lake can be sketchy at night. In the complex, we had no problems at all.

Maybe she'd have more fun but maybe she'd want to save money walking to work. At least, I'd want that xD

Hey I have walked that many times! There is a path all the way around the lake HA...really though the spillway area on the west side is not very far. And there will be a new trail and bridge behind the White Rock YMCA - connecting to the new Santa Fe trail. Also the entire spillway/parking/path is being redone now..
