We just moved here to Dallas ; currently renting in Irving and are looking for a house. Our buget is around 300K max 315 K. Schools are very important to us and I travel a bit. so we are looking for a place that is not very far from the airport. Coppell schools are pretty good but Norh Irving /Coppell seems to be pretty expensive for housing .We are thinking about Carrollton Would really appreciate some input about Carrollton and any recommended neighborhoods?
Also any other good places other than Carrollton preferrably in between Fortworth and Dallas with good schools?

you should probably do a search for carrollton on this board. There are a lot of negative and positive views about the place. We live in carrollton for the schools and don't regret it one bit.
In my opinion the best area around Carrollton is the thin sliver of housing just west of old Denton and north of Trinity mills. There is a very nice community behind Kent elementary which backs up to the golf course and has some lovely homes. They should be right at your budget.
You have to be careful though since that far north in carrollton half the neighborhood will be going to Lewisville ISD. I believe the intersection is Eisenhower pkwy and Frankford Rd.
Besides that there is a nice neighborhood just north of the library on Josey Ranch Lake - west of Josey and north of Keller springs.
Carrollton is fairly run down with older homes and a lot of diversity. The diversity is a strong plus for me but it may not be for everyone.
The Dart rail line will be coming up to carrollton in dec 2010 and that may rejuvenate the town somewhat.
Crime is not that big of a problem and you can go to the city of carrollton's website to learn more about the town.

Pretty much in agreement with bookworm...another area to consider is Country Place...it is located near Marsh Lane and Beltline. It is located on a small golf course and is quite nice. Older but well maintained. I grew up in that area and still think it is very nice. The elementary school is really good.

If you don't mind Carrollton (town) but Lewisville schools you can find some nice homes up near Trinity Medical Hospital at Josey and Hebron area or further west near Old Denton and Hebron. I currently live in the 2nd of these areas and have been quite pleased. My child attends Lewisville Schools and I work for Carrollton-Farmers Branch Schools. I love CFB and have no major concerns about LISD schools. I think you will find quality at either district and both include homes in the Carrollton city limits.

The Homestead sub division is very nice, too. Not sure about pricing on existing homes but well worth checking it out.

Another good school area in this price range is Southern Flower Mound.

my opinion and it is just that, an opinion. Yes, Coppell has great schools, but it is pricey...If you are looking into Carrollton try and get into Denton County (north Carrollton) I think the schools are a little better. They are Lewisville. There is an area I think someone mentioned: Someone mentioned Country Place, in Carrollton. I have always loved the area, but the homes are much older. I don't know how you feel about that. You may want to give some thought to Grapevine as well. Another area with very good schools is Flower Mound or Highland Village..Both should give you a decent home for the money..

Unfortunitely I do not remember the name of the realtor that sold us our home in Lewsville and I would never recommend the jerk that we listed with when we were ready to leave Texas...
