You should move to Dallas. If you want to live in a place like Miami, then Dallas has it all. Austin sucks, don't move here. Tell your neighbors.

Not sure how well an aggressive business type would go over in slacker-Austin.

Maybe you should check out the Dallas neighborhoods which have an Austin-vibe plus the advantages of a 6.5 million metro -- East Dallas/Lower Greenville/Knox-Henderson/Lakewood/Deep Ellum or Oak Lawn/Design District/Turtle Ceek/parts of Uptown, Southside/Cedars/Lamar or North Oak Cliff/Kessler Park/Bishop Arts etc. Also many of these areas have significant Latino populations.

Coming from Miami you would find that Uptown/Downtown and Knox-Henderson/Lower Greenville and Deep Ellum/Expo Park have more nightlife -- bars, pubs, restaurants.

The thing is that Dallas has everything Austin has and much more and without the negatives that permeate the boring political city of Austin.

From what I recall Dallas has hill country just 10 minutes south of the old Texas stadium. So you really aren't going to miss out on any hill country that you might see in Austin.

If being successful is your main concern and you feel Austin can use your bi-lingual talents go for it.

If being successful is part of your goal and living somewhere with a diversified life is another stick with Dallas.

One thing, i don't think you mentioned, or a couple, actually, your general age, and your marital status, do you have kids? Do you like the night life, are you more liberal or conservative? These issues should play into your decision to some extent.

Thank you for your post, and everyone else has been genuine and helpful.
I'm 28 and while I'm not married now I do have a girlfriend that would ideal come with me after about 6months to a year. So I would be alone and just need to make new friends in the mean time. I know a few people from dallas from over the years but no one really at austin. I do enjoy some of the night life but I'm not a big party person. On my time off you can find me at the gym or on the golf course . As for the conservative/liberal I don't know how to answer that really as I would consider myself conservative overall but living in miami and being tolerant and quite frankly loving all the craziness and (liberal) of miami. I think me considering myself conservative would truly equate to more liberal than any texas city

I'm going to try to pursue dallas but I'm not going to close myself off to the opportunity of austin.

Dallas is more appealing to me everyday, I'm going forward dealing with the recruiter in Dallas as opposed to the one in Austin. Anyone else have any thoughts?

As of right now, my gut. It's not set in stone I could still end up in SA or Austin

The people in Austin are bad though. Something is not right there.

I cannot give you feed back as of yet about Dallas since I have only lived here for 2 weeks. I grew up in Houston (43 years there) and lived in Austin for 1.5 years just last year. I would never recommend to anyone that likes the big city pace to move to Austin. I don't see Austin as a bad place but I could not wait to get out of there. It lacks in so many ways as far as being a progressive upbeat happening city. I know that a lot of people who visit Houston either love it or hate it. Houston is a wonderful exciting city with lots of opportunities to make money. Houston is a very wealthy city with lots successful start up businesses everywhere. It has a very large Hispanic population so your bilingual skills will do great there. You have to know Houston more then just a visit or two to discover the fact that it is a huge international progressive world class city. I am not sure where you visited in Houston but if you ended up in some of the ugliest parts and did not venture into the interesting or exciting places then you would certainly walk away with an OK opinion of it. I think that you can't go wrong with either Houston or Dallas but I warn you to stay out of Austin if you want to live the big city life. It's a nice place to visit but you would not want to live there if you are used to and want to live the big city life.
