Plano would be a good option, I agree, but like you, the price tag may not be workable.

East Plano? Is it possible to find an older home in East Plano for 125k? It's connected to DART.

Maybe the older parts of Carrollton? That DART line is opening soon.

Either way, 4 bedrooms for 125k is going to be hard unless the OP can deal with an older home (or a major fixer upper).

If I could make a suggestion, north Irving in the Valley Ranch/Las Colinas area would be a good place to look at if you want to be in the 'middle' of it all. There is a rail service there, plenty of decent apartments north of I-635, close to shopping, and a good location in my opinion of course, but unfortunately not many homes under 125k unless you looked into southern Irving, which has it's shady parts.
