Hi,

I was looking for some apartments in far north dallas. I noticed there are some railroad tracks in the area, near arapaho/preston/keller springs roads (there are a couple of country clubs nearby). The apartment staff said they are not active but I still want to make sure. I googled but could not find anything. Does anybody know if those are active tracks?

thanks,

Never seen a train on those tracks east of Addison, and I cross them every day. It's called the Cotton Belt rail line. DART is considering that route for a light-rail line, but that will take years, if it ever happens.

If you're talking about the line that goes under Preston, crosses Keller Springs, Davenport, Hillcrest, etc. Yes...there can be a train there from time to time. I've lived in Prestonwood for nearly 2 years and have heard the train maybe 2x. The last time was about a month and a half ago, at night. It didn't sound it's horn, but the rumble was good and loud.

You know - even if there ARE trains - the trains around here are pretty quite. I have one that is right behind my house - like RIGHT behind my house and honestly it is not bad at all. I think it is hard to live in TX and NOT live somewhere within hearing distance of a train. =)
