My husband and I are retiring to Texas from Indiana (only child in Texas).
We are focusing on the Rockwall area. We do not want a dedicated retirement community, but would like a community with activities and where we can meet other retired people. We also would like to be on a golf course. Any suggestions?

My parents (semi-retired) live near Rockwall and they go to the YMCA to work out. There are LOTS of retirees that go there during the day. The membership is very reasonably priced.

As for golf courses, I think the only one is at Buffalo Creek. Rockwall is on a large lake, and so more of the focus is on lakefront communities, such as Chandler's Landing and The Shores.

The Shores is a golf course w/ a country club, swimming pool, tennis, etc. (It was the first golf course in Rockwall long before Buffalo Creek). Very nice as well. You can live in The Shores and chose a golf course lot, lake lot, lake view, etc or just a regular lot. Drive your own golf cart over to the CC and play a round of golf. They also have a great summer camp for the kids that we do for golf/tennis/swim. In the afternoons when I pick them up at the pool there are tons of people around of all ages.
