This is pretty much the truth. There's nothing up here than can compete with The Salt Lick or Kreuz's. Sonny Bryan's is just kinda "meh" to me. If I want bbq I generally go to either Rudy's or Spring Creek. Rudy's is definitely the better of the two. You'll think I'm kidding cause they always are part of a gas station but it really is good bbq.

GayleTx speaks pretty much the truth when you are talking about BBQ in the city of Dallas. I wonder why?

If you include Ft Worth, or the surrounding communities, it is better.

This may offend soem people (especially Texans) but I prefer the southeast BBQ to Texas BBQ. I love eating BBQ in memphis! Texas BBQ is less sweet. The first times I got beans in Texas I was shocked that they were not sweet.

well--good BBQ and great BBQ are two entirely different taste sensations...
Hard Eight is pretty good
and Railhead in FTW is decent but overdone
but there is NO BBQ as good as City Market in Luling--just writing those words give me a BBQ jones...
there is great description of what eating BBQ at City Market is like--written by the food guru Ruth Reichl--it basically equates eating at City Market to the best, most memorable taste experience of her life...and folks that is saying a lot when you know the kitchens and tables she has eaten at...

could not find hers on the web site but this one is from the writer who had the onerous task of being the reviewer for City Market--boy I volunteer for that job next time...

don't read it if you are not able of driving to Luling tonight and being there when the doors open tomorrow for lunch...

I picked up a 'family pack' at one of the Dickey's on the way home on Friday (not the original location at Henderson/Central, I am embarrassed to admit!) and I was not expecting much. However, it was really good (not great like Luling - be sure to hit it on the weekend of the "Watermelon Thump" if you can).

I stayed over at my mother's all weekend and it lasted until Sunday night - I have to say I really enjoyed it..

I agree about Luling....I work through there a lot and the BBQ there is world class. They make a lot of sausage there to.

I think Fort Worth will give the Hill Country a run for its money as far as best BBQ.
