Pretty sure you need a valid Texas driver's license.


Of course, in the time it took you to post this here, you could have Googled it and gotten a better response from the state department responsible for registration.

New Residents


New residents are required to do the following within 30 days of moving to Texas:

• get a vehicle inspection,
• register and title their vehicle, and
• get a Texas driver license (http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administration/driver_licensing_control/dlindex.htm - broken link).

Active duty members of the U.S. Armed Forces and non-resident, full-time students attending a Texas college or university are not required title or register their vehicles in Texas.

Yes... But That's myy confussion..the order is Vehicle Inspection, Register and Title Vehicle and Get a License... so I suppose that's not necessary.

If you're going to be here longer than 30 days, you must get a Texas DL and register your vehicle in Texas. Unless you're a student.

Yes, for a English as a second language person, it might be confusing. If Engineer is buying a car here, he is stuck with the procedure. If he is bringing one with him, as a full-time student, he can keep the original registration and his original driver's license.
