We are being transferred this summer and have been life long Ohio residents. We are looking for a nice community w/small children and good schools. My husband commute will be near TX 12 & RT 80 (Chalk Hill Road) our price range is 400-450k. Any suggestions? Through internet searches we found several homes we like near Flower Mound - is it hard to get in and out of? Southlake - is it too rich for us? Would love some help and the real deal on communities.

Flower Mound is a nice place and has been growing over the years, and the roads are being enlarged to help with the traffic. Southlake has lots of high priced homes, I don't think its out of your price range. if you have more questions just ask! I'll be happy to help. thanks

Flower Mound is an excellent community as is Southlake. Southlake might be a little pricey for you, so Colleyville might also be a community to look at. All have good school systems and are good communities. Flower Mound would be the longest commute to your job and it all depends on what time you are driving. Coppell is another good community that should be on your list.

That being said, you should get pre-approved before you start looking for a home as the lending paramenters have changed. No need for any surprises at the last moment.

Definitely look into Coppell, consistent good schools and the least painful commute out of the communities you've listed.

I'll also put in a word for Castle Hills. I don't typically love planned master communities, but this one is more than just a golf course and a swimming pool. They've got Saturday farmer's markets in the village plaza, family movie nights, a biking club, etc etc.

Default Schools

How are the schools in Castle Hills? Are the taxes higher? My husband haven't heard much about the area.

Castle Hills Elementary School as an "exemplary" rating and Great Schools gives it a rating of 9. I'd say that's pretty solid, Castle Hills Elementary School - The Colony, Texas - TX - School overview

How old are your kids? Castle Hills is zoned to Hebron High School in the Lewisville ISD, and is a fairly new high school, but exhibiting good signs for a new school (number of National Merit Finalists increasing with each year).

Are taxes high compared to what? It's in Denton County which is lower taxes than Collin County... but again, which neighborhood are you comparing it to? Southlake?

A friend of mine lives in Castle Hills and explained that his water bill is high but it is offset by his relatively low electric bill. I believe the electricity is provided by CoServ (co-op).
