Looking for advice on a possible relocation for my family of 5. Job would be in Addison, looking for potential rental properties until we sell our house. Factors to consider:

1. We have small kids, schools are important
2. Rent needs to be no more than $1500 for at least a 3 bed
3. Ideally 25 min or less commute to work.
4.We like suburbia, currently live in Ohio in a cookie cutter neighborhood. Looking for something similar so the kids will make friends, as well we can make friends.

So far I have found Plano and Carrollton. Not sure if Plano is within my commute factor, but seems to fit other criteria. Carrollton has some sketchy reviews over the years so I am not sure about that area. Am I missing any other areas??

Carrollton is fine for houses zoned to Hebron high school, too

A 3 bed/2 bath in Carrollton is doable for $1400-1600. Here's an example.

Thinking we need to up the budget ...everything I like is no less than 2k per month. Current house here in Ohio is 4 bed with finished basement approx 2900 sq ft , paid 188k . Wishful thinking out in Texas lol. I was hoping there was some city I hadn't found yet with cheaper rental properties but that doesn't appear to be the case .

Richardson's an option. Not cheaper but a nice area to consider.

What about McKinney ? It's farther but is there a backroad option into Addison so you avoid some of the highway Rush hour? The job would be on. Spectrum drive in Addison? McKinney rental homes seem more affordable and it seems like any school district in the area is pretty good .

There are no back roads others have not discovered. Traffic Hades from McKinney.
Coppell is the best school district that's at all a decent commute to Addison and it is not budget friendly. There are also rentals in Valley Ranch with great schools, again you will be budget challenged.

The DFW area is experiencing tremendous growth -- for the past 8 years -- with so many somehow thinking they are coming to a major metro area and the rents will be cheap. Our rents are very competitive with other major cities. But we are not a little village, and rents are great for a major city. Rent in my area for 1600 sq feet go between $3500 and $5000. The same kind of area & space in San Diego cost $8K-9K a month. So Dallas is still quite a bargain.

This is getting depressing.... I was out for an interview back in 2012 and the houses were very affordable a lot has changed in nearly 3 years. Can anyone comment on the commute from Plano ?? Is it bearable ??? I'm realizing to be in a house similar to what we have now sans basement I am going to shell out between 2200-2600 per month . Also what is the job market like in the hospitality industry ? My husband bartends part time now , if and when we move he will need to find something whether it be at a restaurant or local pub/bar a few nights a week .
