Well, I checked that insure com website....and lo and behold, guess who was ranked #1 as the highest payers of auto insurance? Washington, DC. Hmph. I am completely shocked at this piece of breaking news --- NOT! :-) TX is looking better and better for me.

Where (what city & state) did you move from, WheninRoam?

****Newsflash everyone***** State Farm is the most expensive auto insurance provider out there. If you have been using them for 10 years etc. You were head cracked on the rates for every one of those years.

Do yourself a favor. Take the policy you have now and white out the provider etc. When its time to renew, fax it to 3 or 4 other insurance providers in your area and you will be shocked to see the differences in rates they offer. We use Farm Bureau and they have extremely low rates. They would be a good place to start.

Also, I have lived in a few different states and all the auto insurance rates were about the same from state to state. We just moved from MD 7 months ago and its no higher here in TX.

I have Farm Bureau as well and love those guys. They're reputable too.

That sounds like an excuse for charging high premiums. Ask him to provide real statistics coming from the government.

I am not sure that is the case, but they are among the highest, we was told (this was years ago) by our agent in No VA that Sac, CA and D.C. had the highest.

As for us, we had state Farm in Texas, I don't remember the rates as it has been a few years ago, but they were very high, both home and car. The reason had to do with hail damage or we were told. Here we just switched from State Farm because of rates: we were paying around 1100 a year for 2 cars, high deductions, a 1998 Ford Tauras WAgon and a 2003 Chrysler Concord. We switched to Farmers and are paying about $750.00.
